KeyHelp® 25.1 – New backup features, improvements for the Pro edition and more

by Alexander Mahr

In the coming days, the new KeyHelp version 25.1 will be released.
Below you’ll find an overview of some selected new features.

  • New features in the backup system

    Restore databases as .sql file

With the new version, databases can now also be restored separately as .sql files to any location in the file system. Unlike usual, the target database does not necessarily have to exist beforehand.

Email notifications for failed repository cleanup

If errors occurred during the automatic cleanup of a backup repository, these were previously only visible in the backup overview or log files. With the new version, KeyHelp will now also send email notifications in such cases – including customizable message content and options under "Configuration" → "Notifications".
  • Group clients into client groups (Pro edition)
It’s often a good idea to create separate user accounts for different projects of the same client – for example, when individual web apps need to be managed and deployed independently. However, this approach has drawbacks: users need separate login credentials for each account and have to log out and back in when switching projects.

With the new KeyHelp version, that extra step is no longer necessary. Multiple user accounts can now be grouped into a customer group. Within such a group, users can switch between their accounts with a single click – no additional login required, directly from the dashboard.

Administrators can create and manage customer groups via User Management → Customer Groups tab.
The account switch feature is available to all users in a group, right from their dashboard.
  • KeyHelp Pro – Enhancements to existing features

    Dark mode

The dark mode has been visually refreshed and now appears more polished with harmonized color adjustments.

    Monitoring

The monitoring section now includes new charts that show network throughput and the number of web server requests during a selected time period. Additionally, an issue with displaying CPU usage of server services has been resolved – gaps in data collection that occurred in some cases should now be a thing of the past.

    One-click installer

The one-click installer now supports even more applications. After the release of KeyHelp 25.1, users will be able to install tools like Grav (a flat-file CMS), FreeScout (a helpdesk platform), and BookStack (a documentation and knowledge management solution).
The installation process itself has also been improved: with a new password-handling method, fewer user inputs are required, making things easier to use. At the same time, the revised logic ensures a more stable and reliable installation of applications.
  • Install minor KeyHelp improvements via Patch Manager
In the past, minor patches were occasionally released for the current KeyHelp version. These improvements and bug fixes appeared between major KeyHelp updates and were previously only provided via the KeyHelp forum (https://community.keyhelp.de). Since many users do not (regularly) visit the forum, these patches often remained “invisible” for them.

KeyHelp 25.1 closes this gap: an integrated patch feature now allows minor fixes and updates to be applied easily with a click between main versions.

Administrators can find the Patch Manager for applying current improvements under "Configuration" → "Patch Manager".
  • Improved system stability
To optimally configure the services installed with KeyHelp and ensure smooth interaction of all components, in some cases, deep system-level changes were required. However, these configurations were not always protected from regular operating system updates, which in some cases overwrote KeyHelp’s adjustments – leading to service issues.

With KeyHelp 25.1, all affected configurations have been thoroughly reviewed. In some cases, settings could be simplified, so deep system modifications are no longer necessary. For services that still require system adjustments, these are now performed in areas that are protected from OS updates.
This increases system stability and ensures more reliable operation of a KeyHelp server.
