The blog and content management system WordPress is one of the most popular systems on the Internet. The software Plesk makes it even easier for administrators to manage and maintain WordPress systems and domains. Plesk allows for professional server hosting and simplifies many processes. But are there any alternatives to Plesk?

KeyHelp®

KeyHelp® is a free server management software that was developed several years ago. Since 2014, the new version of the software was only available via Keyweb. Now KeyHelp® is free and available for everyone. The software is well designed and offers many useful functions. All settings can be managed via a web-based interface. This includes for example the setup of domains and e-mail accounts, the adding of FTP users, the setup of MySQL databases as well as access to web statistics, additional functions and more. The explicit and precise user guide and the clear menu design allows users to quickly familiarize themselves with the software without lengthy training.

Another distinguishing factor are the KeyHelp framework conditions: Distribution does not require licensing and is without domain restrictions, i.e. the administrator and the users can use the software to manage an unlimited number of domains free of charge. In addition, KeyHelp® can be used, for example, for white label web distribution by resellers. KeyHelp® is available in 3 languages (DE, EN, RU) and, thus far, runs primarily on the popular Linux system Ubuntu. Because of its many advantages compared to comparable server management tools, KeyHelp® enjoys a steadily growing fan base.

ISPConfig

The abbreviation stands for Internet service provider configuration and refers to a software that allows for the web-based management and configuration of services such as firewalls, ftp, http, mail, POP3/IMAP or MYSQL. The fourth layer is for managing the users of the e-mail accounts. ISPConfig runs on popular Linux operating systems such as CentOS, Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE and Ubuntu.

LiveConfig

LiveConfig is another solution with a web-based interface that offers all the necessary functions for configuring web servers. LiveConfig makes it relatively easy to manage web hosting offers such as e-mail accounts, databases, domains, FTP access and web servers (Apache HTTP Server). In contrast to Confixx or Plesk, LiveConfig is programmed entirely in C/C++ and does not require the usual Apache/PHP/MySQL environment. LiveConfig offers three configuration layers: Administrator, reseller and end-customer.

cPanel

cPanel is another Plesk alternative that serves as a configuration tool for Linux-based systems such CentOS, FreeBSD or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Apart from Plesk and Confixx, cPanel is the most popular configuration tool on the American market and offers a convenient, web-based user interface for performing all the usual administration tasks. This allows users to make changes to Linux Web Server settings that would normally require a great deal of effort or specialized know-how. Furthermore, cPanel is available in 20 languages.
